- Editor's Notes
- Cuttriss reports limited results & problems with chalk cylinders TAE gave him in June for cable telegraphy experiments [fr. 662 is ecnlosed drawing] < "When you get the devices just so it will work strongly with 3 or 4 volts through several mega ohms ---- --- -- but its very difficult to get it just right= try a condenser in circuit of about 1/10 microfarad capacity- Hve you tried an induction coil, putting chalks in secondary= I pack & ship you a telephone for trial working Morse signals & listening reading by sound try that under various conditions. a platina point in centre of disphragm ought to open & close circuit if signals are strong When --- --- -- I haved --- make a relay I have found with certain adjustments and conditions that the lever moved slugish seeming to require time like electrification & at other times under different adjustments & conditions it would -------- open & close the circuit with enormous rapidity & I have made it a self vibrator & it actually gave vibrations so rapid -- that it would whistle so shrill as to nearly pierce your ears Its just a question of experiment I had it working one time ---- when a Thomsons' Cable Gal only went 10 degs on the scale when in same circuit yet the sounder closed & opened every time=" >
