Note from Bouverie [follows] regarding amalgamation, in reply to mine saying you were again experimenting with chalk "and that you never renewed experimentation on any line without making material advances." Told him I thought friction principle would succeed & combination be unnecessary. "The truth is we are in a financial hole and amalgamation seems the only way out."
