Title
[D8104ZDJ], Letter from Uriah Hunt Painter to Thomas Alva Edison, October 1st, 1881
Editor's Notes
"I arranged with Boutwell yesterday before he went home to decline McMahon's offer of a retainer & will see him soon & arrange for the $250. "He is wanting the U S [Supreme Court interlined above] judgeship vacant by Cliffords death & if he gets that it will prevent him from doing us any good if he gets the money now. I'll wait & see how it comes out. "I have written [name illegible; Conklin?] at Utica- He is quite unwell & may not come down to [location, illegible] next week"
