- Editor's Notes
- "Will you be kind enough to do me the honor of answering a question or two I have made me a Phonograph for my own amusement & for the pleasure of making it, I find after experimenting about a year or more; I cannot get it to speak as loud as I would like to have it do. The Cylinder is brass, Six inches long, and six inches in diameter, Twenty threads to the inch. Diaphragm of Mica, 2/4 inches in diameter. Now what I want to know if you please which is the best thread or froove for the Cylinder the Square thread thus [drawing] or the V shape [drawing] The threads on my Cyldr. are Square. How can I find out or determine how stiff to make the spring that holds the Stylus (should the spring be as stiff as an ordinary American Watch main spring? Any information you may give me or any suggestion you might make so that I could give my instru=ment a louder tone, Will be highly appreciated I assure you."
