Title
[D8123ZDO], Letter from Francis Robbins Upton to Thomas Alva Edison, August 20th, 1881
Editor's Notes
Tried the japanned clamps yesterday; but blue took a long time and in one case broke the carbon. Drying by sulfuric acid doesn't show any advantages so far. Can't turn out 1000 lamps on 200 pumps in one run of 11-12 hours. Regarding reducing expenses: can turn out lamps faster than demand for them so recommends reducing staff and bringing down production to 600 lamps a day. This will raise cost of individual lamps but will reduce operating overhead.
