- Oscillating device on pumps seems to do some good. Using calcium chloride yields spotted carbons; pump working with lithium chloride works slowly. Welsh waiting for new furnace doors before trying TAE's suggestion re carbonization. Bradley says that bamboo fibers branch out and vary in size and are apt to tear apart. Upton trying to reduce breakage and has succeeded in reducing by half from what it was 3 months ago. Estimates that 5% of old lamps fail to hold their vacuum. Consider for inclusion: gives good detail of work in shop. (DH)
