Title
[D8149R], Letter from George Edward Gouraud to Thomas Alva Edison, May 21st, 1881
Editor's Notes
Very much regret any misunderstanding of your instructions for selling United Tel. Co. shares. Thought only interpretation of instructions was to sell shares now for delivery when I received them. Insull wrote that letter so I assumed you had full knowledge of what you were doing. Got a good price and sold some of my own shares; expected price would continue to fall unless deal struck with Gower. But price has climbed since then and I must make up difference until can deliver the shares. Your 24 Aprl letter says prices climbed above 8 pounds (from 6+) day after transaction is wholly incorrect. As to Post Office negotiations, they were suspended for 2 months prior and had no effect on share rise or fall.
