Title
[D8149ZAE], Letter from George Edward Gouraud to Thomas Alva Edison, December 14th, 1881
Editor's Notes
[Good summary of contested amounts due to/from TAE's British telephone accts.] As promised in my letter of 12 Dec., here are final propositions regarding Glasgow accts and United Co. shares. Glasgow: propose we divide amount equally between us; explains. United Telephone shares: reiterate that your letter appeared to leave no choice but to sell ALL your shares. Had to rely on liquidator's estimate of # of shares coming to you. Possible to read these instructions, depending on puncation, applying only to shares from London reversion or to ALL of your United shares. My interpretation, though incorrect, was reasonable. Propose that I will accept entire loss from oversale, you to accept sale of your joint account shares at the price indicated on 4 August (7 lbs. 1/0). Itemizes how this proposition would leave TAE's entire account, including Glasgow, about 700 lbs in the hole. I think this is fair.
