Title
[D8227K], Letter from Charles Lorenzo Clarke to Thomas Alva Edison, May 31st, 1882
Editor's Notes
Insull wrote Clarke wrt "the book of instructions and asked for any suggestions on a revision." Clarke suggests: (1) omit description of armature "by the wheel analogy, page 8." (2) Redo article abt lamp socket, p. 27, since all this has changed. (3) Omit description of regulator, since we dont' use one at present. (4) on p. 46 omit reference to table b/c doesn't give results in cir-mils(?); give wire gauge instead. (5) Insert following rule on p. 49: rule abt calculating cir-mils. (6) "Give directions for the loss (5%) up to the first lamp, and from that point to the last lamp only 2%. This is a point which should be made clear." (7) "Publish the list of safety-catch wires &c substantially as published, I think, in bulletin.." (8) Add leakage losses as a cause for hot armature, p. 76. (9) Leave tables for 5% loss alone.
