Title

[D8230ZCQ], Letter from Francis Robbins Upton to Thomas Alva Edison, December 13th, 1882

Editor's Notes

"Regarding finances at the Lamp Factory. I have tried hard to raise $10.000 in Newark without success. If this were a stock Co. the case would be very different as thern our paper given in security would be double named." Expects a large Isolated Co. order around Jan. 15; "unless we have the contract fixed it will be very hard work to make them give us any money in the future. By not settling the matter they are now having a very large [surplus?] account and the longer it runs the worse for us." "We are risking an enormous amount of money by delay as the longer the matter is in suspense the harder it will be to fix. Then now that our business is growing profitable their greed will be excited and we shall be at their mercy. The matter has hung now a year and a half and but little progress made, for the various agreements are not yet out of the committee's hands." xxx poss select b/c governance problems btwn various TAE enterprises and financial problems gtg lamp factory on self-sustaining basis dh 24jan03 xxx
