Title
[D8238ZBV], Letter from Joshua Franklin Bailey to George Edward Gouraud, May 20th, 1882
Editor's Notes
[enclosed with D8238ZBU] "Personal." Here's my reply to your letter of yesterday about TAE companies on continent. "It occurs to me that the company you are preparing to bring out is probably for European countries in which Mr Edison has no patents. Probably you are not aware that the Ci. Continentale of Paris not only holds all the Edison patents for the Continent, but also is the concessionaire of the Edison Electric Light Co of Europe of New York, of all its rights in countries not covered by patents. The Ci. Continentale, which numbers among its shareholders a large number of the first bankers of europe, is arranging for the establishment of extensive factories on the continent from which to supply a real exploitation of the countries in question" and plans to start companies there. "Would it not be better that conflicting interests should be aranged between the parties concerned than to take them before the public."
