- [D8238ZFF], Letter from Joshua Franklin Bailey to Thomas Alva Edison, December 31st, 1882
- Editor's Notes
- Gives translation of letter from Italian committee which quotes TAE to Columbo (6th Dec) alleging defects in Porter governors as reason for non-payment to Southwark. Also quotes former (n.d.] TAE letter that the "Porter engine does not work well, and the only thing that is lacking still at the Central Station is the substitution of the Armington & Sims engine in place of the Porters now in use, the Armington & Sims engine not only having the regularity that is lacking in the Porter engines, but is much more economical." TAE's right to protest Porter is engines also gives us right to protest, since we bought engines complete on TAE's recommendation. Want to install Porter engines then replace them with A&S as soon as possible. Bailey says he cabled TAE on 26th after receiving this letter, but have no reply.
