Title

[D8239ZFA], Letter from Thomas Alva Edison to Arnold Henry White, September 26th, 1882

Editor's Notes

[interesting typed letter, unsigned--copy?] About disputed charges for equipment. Got yours of 5th enclosing letter to EHJ, also yrs of 9. Dispute your contention you dind't order L armatures. Cabled you that it was commercially impractical to make bar armature machines on acct of special tools needed, and you cabled consent to receive wire wound armatures instead. You also ordered one hundred 100-light machines but in expting I found it more economical to make 150-light machs, which met my estimate to you of costing $6 per light. Justified in sending you extra L armatures; did so personally, and you shouldn't have refused my draft. You didn't object at time to receipt of extra K armatures. Explained in last letter reasons for price of 100 10cp lamps at $2 each; ordered by EHJ long before your Co formed. "The price is as low as I can make it considering that we have only just commenced turning out the lamps." Goes through history of disputed socket order, confusion over who has responsibility to order. Don't wish to resume former drawing privileges; want you arrange payment of bills here in NY because "I consider the spirit displayed in your later correspondence to be far from friendly or such as I should like to have exist between myself and my customers." Did all in my power to save you from expense upon receipt of your cables stopping orders, despite earlier request to rush ASAP. Not making low cp lamps, and don't want to go through experimental trouble and expense to do so in "in view of the spirit your correspondence displays."
