re 14th, "you deserve a putty medal for your bravery, and have no doubt but what your exploits wil find a place in your Country's history.To face the braves of the West most certainly requires a man of your spirit, and it is for that reason that you were chosen for the onerous and risky enterprise which you now have in hand.".. Return from "western wilds" to "civilized" Kentucky for Maysville canvass.. "man who gets his hend in his coattail first has the best chance" (see D8349B & C for Dyer's amusing account)
