- Editor's Notes
- He went to Paris last night in compliance with a telegram form Batchelor. He found a copy of Bailey's letter to Eaton regarding the Amalgamation of the French Companies. Batchelor goes into the details in his letter to you. Insull states he thinks it will be a disastorous plan for the stockholders of the European Co. disastified with reception from Bailey. He treated and gave me the same amount of information as he would a stranger Batchelor notices this first and was first to draw my attention to it. It stands to reason that if Bailey is heavly indebt to Pairs Jews and is obliged ot borrow money for them all the time. Bailey is a very poor agent for both you and the European company. He is not doing the European Company justice, he has no idea of what you invent and the ability of those invention to bring companies success. Upsetting to write about this but Batechelor and Porges agree with me. Porges took me to theatre and treated me well he discussed the business in Europe and he feels the Europe is dead but you have to listen to him carefully the wants to get it as cheap as possible true to his Jewish instinct. A reorganization is desirable and necessary. Insull states if we want a Central Station in Paris we have to modifiy the plan. Insull strongly informs TAE that he resist making the very last modification b/c you have to be in the direction of giving more to the European co and less to he French Companies. Bailey seem to feel the opposite is true. The amalgamention in England has affected the situuation in Europe. TAE will have to yield to the French people to take in Swan although on no such term of equality as the English Fusion. If some news comes forth that Central Station will be started in Paris your reputation and your sytem in Paris will be effected. He confirms the following cable form Batchelor stating that Porges will abandon Central Station, Batchelor will have full Central Station data and consult with you about building in Paris. He can't write any more b/c of the good looking sisters and cousins all around. Post script he has not see the sun since he has set foot in England I am getting hungry for the sight of it. ENCLOSES BATCH TO TAE 25 Dec (D8337ZFZ): 10 pages outlining proposed terms of combination of Edison and Swan interests on Continent. I'm never invited to these meetings and can only reports what Bailey chooses to tell me. Despite Bailey's requests, don't mail power of atty until EVERYTHING is agreed upon. Bailey owes lots money to Porges and can't be relied upon fully (reportedly he spends lots traveling unnecessarily). Porges, et. al. would give ANYTHING to have the control that the european Light co now has. The deal Bailey has arranged would, if the company did well in two years, make its stock worth $25." PS. Insull has read this and will dispatch it from London. "After working nearly 3 years and not receving enough to board me you will not wonder that I would sooner come over there when the propect of working two or three years more to make my stock worth $25 stares me in the face."
