Title
[D8430F1], Test Report, John F Ott, Edison Lamp Co, January 18th, 1884
Editor's Notes
Exhausted 6 lamps with zinc on cent pole and found it would not cary until we obatined quite a good vacuum, then the carrying went on quite fast, so much so that I had to brake the current and seal off in order to get a test. This must droped[?] the vacuum somewhat, but we burnt them at about 6 or 8 candle power. We connected them up after the following manner [drawing follows] This lamp was very slightly coated with zinc it gave the following deflection [results follow] This lamp became quite thickly coated [more results] This lamp was very thickly coated when started and after burning 3 hours it began to peal off in line with carbon [results] cut out all the resistance and the candle power went up to about 80 and it lasted 20 minutes then arced [more results then more discussion of experiment with lamp] Connected a lamp with aluminum in center. This I could not melt on pump and showed no blue after the air was all worked out [results follow] Connected 3 lamp with iron in center [results of each lamp follow]
