- Acknowledge "with high appreciation" receipt of your letter of Nov. 27, offering to procure, free of charge, for presentation to the Sultan of Turkey, "a collection of photographs of various objects of beauty and interest peculiar to the United States." Would give the Department [of State] great pleasure to receive contributions of a limited number of such views as are not ordinarily marketable, without taxin gthe goodwill of the contributors. "Your knowledge of the subject would be valuable in the accomplishment of this purpose, and I should be glad to avail of it."
