Title
[D8533S], Letter from John Langton, Jr. to Samuel Insull, July 1st, 1885
Editor's Notes
I enclose the Telephone Price List. "Anyone to whom you may show the list will notice that" the prices do not vary regularly. At some points there are sudden falls, notably between 205 & 193, 127 &115, and 49 & 37. At these three points, we change the size of our boxes. At other points, there is a lesser change due to changes in the size of the iron tubes. These inequalities will always exists to some extent, but as the number of box patterns is increased, they will become less abrupt, tending towards a regular variation in price. In brief: the present list is based on the box patterns we now have, which will be increased in number as needed, and in any estimate, when the amount warrants it, we will figure[?] on intermediate box patterns and give the purchaser the benefit of the savings so attained.
