Editor's Notes

Handwritten memorandum titled "New Machines." Gives relatively long, very technical descriptions of changes made to machines, including adjusmtents of plates, bolts, and tissue paper. Discusses vulcanizing fibre pieces, adjustments made to slots, fields, and commutator rods, as well as thickness of sheet iron. Discusses insulation and compares commutator to a pulley. Discusses adjustments to cores and coils, and arms, and the blower aperture. Discusses strength of Porter coupling (self-oiled), pillow block, and how the design permits moving out of field pieces to get at armature. Extra bars to give at least 180 V with no load. Discusses phosphorbronze boxes, japanned parchment paper, and overlapped plates. No mercury is to be used.
