Title
[D8630ZBO], Letter from Francis Robbins Upton to Thomas Alva Edison, June 10th, 1886
Editor's Notes
[One-page handwritten letter from Berlin] Your cable received this morning "Drexel advise Siegel knows nothing scheme . . ." #In my first cable I said "Siegel approves" This being distinctly understood by Mr. Villard as the condition to any poers being given Mr Villard said that he knows that Mr Siegel would approve, [on his statement?]. I telegraphed you. ## I have cabled very fully and strongly in order to impress on you the gravity of the situation here. There is a big break threatening between the various interests which would entirely end all hopes of the NY Co. Villard is evidently very strong here and has fully grasped the situation. ## I shall see Villard today and have Siegel cable you. [update tc 3/2102] Upton writes that he has received TAE's cable, which stated that TAE would authorize full power be given to Villard only if Siegel would give approval. Have previously cabled TAE "Siegel approves," which is necessary condition for Villard. Re-emphasizes "gravity" of situation, says "big break threatening between various interests" could "end all hope" for NY Co.
