I'm reminding you, as you requested, of your promise to send a phonograph; would be exceedingly valuable if you would "tell it something concerning the treatment of auriferous pyrites or other metallurgical question"; Jan. 7 we will publish a very large edition of the Journal, which will circulate nationwide and have "a very large circulation in foreign countries. I propose illustrating your phonograph--as it is in the Scientific American today--and if you would send me a phonogram that I could print, saying I had it from the instrument it would add immensely to the interest of the article, and escpecially if the subject of the phonogram were something of interest in a mining or metallurgical way"; am very busy, so the sooner you send it, the better for me.
