Title

[D8724AAN], Letter from W S Ravenscroft to Thomas Alva Edison, October 29th, 1887

Editor's Notes

"Your letter recd and I herewith enclose to you a very poor sample of the material of which I spoke. Your are right in supposing that the material is affected by moisture. But I think I can produce a material that may withstand it perfectly. This specimen has not been made with a need to insulation -- it being one of the earliest produced samples and I have no other now at hand. If you can use it anywhere its cheapness will recommend it if there is any thing in this line needed that is not [----] on the market if you will mention it I will try and produce it. I hope you will not [-]act [--] [-----] [-----] you [----] thoroughly examined it. While it is not impervious to moisture it is now inflammable and resists when properly made most acids and in this it might be useful. It can be easily moulded into shape for ta[--]s a fine finish in any color & design. There are many fla[--]s that moisture does not touch it in your various uses -- properly [-] -- g[----]d it will not cost over 4 or 5 cents a pound to produce it. Please have in mind that this has been produced in the very crudest way and that properly made [----] put before you a very fine article. ## I hope you can apply this somewhere successfully and will be pleased to furnish you with further information." Marginalia: " [-----] would it an[---] for closing the end of glass bulb in the electric lights." Marginalia in TAE's hand: "Tate -- ## Say cannot find a use for material of the nature sent"
