Title
[D8737AAP], Letter from W A Phillips to Charles Batchelor, April 20th, 1887
Editor's Notes
"A new Safety wire, or a new Satefy Wire Cut-out. ## The conductor may be one wire or a number of fine wires for flexibility. It is first cotton covered and parafined or other insulation. It is then covered with fine copper or other wires spirally, or woen or longitudinal; it may also be covered with tin foil or other metal in the form of a tube, or tube; it is then covered with rubber or other insulation. The working is best seen by reference to diagram. ## If the conductor 'A' is injured, it will cut out with coil 'G', if conductor 'D' is injured it will cut out with coil 'M'; in the case of injury to both wires, the circuit '[-]' to '[-]' is made, then we get a cut out with coils 'G' and 'H'." Marginalia by Charles Batchelor: "Dyer & Seely Patent to Phillips & Assg to the Edision M W. You cannot cross the wires or have a leak without the relay cuts out the circuit"
