"We the undersigned Consul General of Belgium for the United States, and Consul of Belgium for New York have the honour to invite you to take part in the Commission for the United States of the 'Great International Competition and Universal International Exhibition' of Sciences and Industries to be held in Brussels 1888, under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty Leopold 2d Kind of Belgium. ## This Commission will designate one of its members to be proposed through us to the Belgium Government to hold office as Comissioner General of the United States. ## We enclose you a list wherein you will find all personalities to whom we have extended similar invitation. ## Limited by time we are obliged to beg you to be kind enough to let us know by return of mail if you accept to take part in this Commission so as to envoke a meeting of these gentlemen to constitute the Bureau. ## Similar Commissions composed of personaliaties occupying a high standing in Commerce Industry and Arts have been successfully formed in England France Germany Austria Hungaria Sweden and Norway." Enclosure: List of names to whom such invitations have been extended.
