- "Mr. Francis R. Upton knowing you are interested in the regulation of heat by the use of a thermostat, suggested that we call your attention to the one we are now making for the [unclear] Co. of Elmira, N.Y. This instrument can be set at any required point high and low and has in its working given perfect satisfaction. We enclose one of the [unclear] we shall be happy to send you one instrument to experiment with if you wish. The [unclear] people are at work on a similar apparatus to control the heat of baking ovens by regulating the draughts. This will be accomplished as soon as we send them a thermometer we are now making for the purpose. This we will also send to you when completed if desired." Yours truly, Standard Thermometer Co.
