- Editor's Notes
- "I see in the Electrical Journals the great question of placing the Electric Light wire as all others wires underground for reasons of danger to linemen as well as being in the way of fireman how instead of having a conduct underground why not have it overhead on from posts or where the Elevated roads run on their turnstiles with switch a conduct as I have drawn or something similar. I should think all difficulties would be overcome with a railing along the sides the lineman could walk along the section length of the line and by leaving down one section after another could examine and repair the line without any difficulty and besides the wires could not necessarily be insulated any better than they now are they would always be in the day and instead of being in the way of fireman they would be an advantage as the ladders could be leaned against this, where they can [unclear] against wires with switch a conuit 3 in my opinion. Can not see why it would not be feasable the one drawing showing sides open and the slot on the bottom to sun the wire up and make connections to any of the wires inside the cross [unclear] should be about 15 feet apart so the wire could be stretched with not much [?] sag in them if this idea is of any account an will perhaps lead to something better you have my best wishes something should be adopted to stop the ry of placing the wires underground." Must respectfully yours, Henry Metzger Genl Manager [Marginalia: "Elevated Roads have no rights under charter to allow it. It has been proposed"]
