Title
[D8805AEV], Letter from William Edward Ayrton to Thomas Alva Edison, July 21st, 1888
Editor's Notes
[EMW fire? Just one transformer?] "I have to give a lecture on the Electric Transmission of Power' at the meeting of the British Association at Bath on September 7th next. The system of distribution with transformers worked with alternate currents, direct current transformation with altternate currents, direct current transformation with accumulators will be showin in action {the motor dynamo system) and it would add greatly with interest of the lecture if you could lend me for the occasion one of your direct current transformers. ### You are probably aware that the lectures given at the British Association meetings are attended by all the prominent scientific men. At my last B.A. lecture given on Sheffield there was audience of over 2000, so that the present occasion would be a very favourable one to introduce your rotary transformer practically the British public. ### It would probably save time if it were sent direct to [address follows] I take this opporunity of sending you favor of our papers published this year." [TAE marginalia: "Tate- Write to say that I only had one transformer which we were Experimenting on & the shop where I had my patterns burned down a few days ago. This will delay me beyond the date of your lecture for which I am sorry."]
