Title

[D8805AFH], Letter from Kansas. Agricultural College, O P Hood to Thomas Alva Edison, August 1st, 1888

Editor's Notes

"I wish to present to the students of our College of whom there are about 500, the subject of Mr. Edison's Invention, in the form of an illustraded lecture. ### Still I do not bring qualifications to the task sufficient to do the subject entire justice, yet I believe I can under this head both instruct and interest our students who have by previous lectures proved earnest listeners to electrical and mechanical subjects. ### Our students generally know nothing of the working and in most cases have never seen either a telephone or in electric lights, and besides these I should like to now then the microphone, the phonograph, old and more particularly the new one, and others. Is it possible for me to obtain, through, your kindness, examples of your inventions for this purpose. I do not mean all of these of course, but those which students can understand and which are of interest to the coming public. We have a by name a [unclear] make it capable of absorbing 2 H.P. which can be used for showing the light and a lecture whereby drawings can be shown which I can make. ### A technological graduates purse is seldom very long for some time after graduation still if some arrangement could be made I should be glad to incur the necessary expense if not too great. I could give bond for the safe return of the instruments if necessary. I should like to be referred to the various firms who manufactured your different inventions for such information regarding them can not be otherwise obtained, and should like all the printed matter concurring your inventions which you may have for distribution and can have sent me. ### Hopeing this way not be thought too bold a request." I am, very respectuflly, O.P. Hood
