- Editor's Notes
- "There seems to have been a terrible game of cross purposes through Mr. Woodruffs + my own letters crossing each other. ### He had in his hands enough money to take up the note in full. When I see your kind offer to extend I availed myself of such of your offers and (as I [unclear[]) instructed Woodruff to pay you $300.00 + sent him note signed in blank for $200.00. ### Before he got this he sent me all the balance in his hands; upon which I returned him Exchange for $325.00 of which he was to pay you $300.00. Today I get the note back. ### Insuring he will hand you the $300.00 I will send you note for balance on Monday from him to you direct. ### I am awful sorry for so may blunders + am leaving it in his hands. I intended to have the matters quietly + quickly settled by an inspection [?] on the spot, the chances being I would be on the road." Brewster
