Title
[D8814AFC], Letter from Livingstone McCartney to Thomas Alva Edison, December 20th, 1888
Editor's Notes
We have in our high school a young man, Edmund De Long, who certainly has remarkable ability. I have seen something of boys in my work and can say without hesitation that this one unquestionably will distinguish himself, if he has an opportunity to develop. He is a young man of excellent habits, good spirit, but limited means. # I encroach upon your preoccupied attention to ask where such a person can secure the opportunity he needs. Is there any place in this country where he could earn his living as an assistant, and at the same time have an opportunity to construct simple apparatus and carry on experiments in electricity and chemistry? Do you ever admit young men to your lab on such conditions? # Trusting that you will find time to answer.
