Title

[D8818ANO], Letter from Edison Phonoplex System, Alfred Ord Tate to Fred E Now, Cleveland Lorain and Wheeling Railroad Co, June 23rd, 1888

Editor's Notes

Your letter 16th re Edison Phonoplex System of Telegraphy. # The cost of equipping three offices would be about $150.00. I send you a descriptive pamplet in which the cost of instruments is mentioned and which will also give you an idea as to the many uses to which the Phonoplex can be put. In equipping any circuit our custom is to bill the instruments &c. at actual cost. We charge a yearly royalty of $100 for each Phonoplex circuit, which royalty continues in force only so long as the circuit is in use. If at any time after the system has been adopted you desire to abandon it, the royalty ceases from the day the instruments are disconnected, our intention being that royalties shall be paid only on circuits in actual use. # We are going to make an exhibition of this system before the Association of Railroad Telegraph Superintendents at the Murray Hill Hotel, NYC, July 11th. Come to NY at that time. If so, you will have an opportunity of witnessing a practical test of the system. A number of the leading railroads in the US are now using Phonoplex.
