- Editor's Notes
- Yours July 11th and 13th to hand enclosing sketch. The countershaft which you propose we shall not be able to use in that shape. Our main shaft runs 200 and the speed at which the lathe spindle must run is 50. We have tried faster speeds for doing the work they have to do, but we cannot work the material properly at anything above 50. As you drive our spindles with a three inch diameter pulley on countershaft it is impossible for you to lessen that very much, so that I see nothing else for you to do but to increase the tight and loose pulleys to such a size that we can get a pulley of reasonable size on our main shaft. With the pulleys you there propose the driving belts would have to run on our shaft, which is 27/16. Please let us know what you can do for us in the matter.
