Editor's Notes
"Learning that you have been experimeting with a view of communicating between ships at a distance by aid of telegraphy. I send you the results of an experiment by me that may be of use to you. ### I made a horn like your Megaphone but differing in the [unclear] as described and placing it in water. Could by its aid here a man speak "a mile distant, or a blow struck by any oar upon the water" can be heard [unclear] miles away. ### I think you can understand the idea as described; and know how to apply it. ### This HydroMegaphone may be of use to assist you in the direction sought. And if so you are welcome to it."
