Title
[D8830ABY], Letter from John Hall McClement to Alfred Ord Tate, August 31st, 1888
Editor's Notes
"Referring to our conversation yesterday I send you here with statement showing the amount of your bills against us $430.93 less credits allowed and bills attched for material left at the Laboratory at Mr. Edison's request, leaving a balance in Mr. Edison's favor amounting to $119.32. ### [List of charges and items purchased follows] ### The first two items we have taken away and estimate the value of them at $90.00 and that amount together with your credits $180.93 aggregate $270.93, thus charging us $185.67 for the use of the other fixtures which, considering that we have been charged at the rate of $1000.0 a year for rent is entirely too much to ask the Light Company to sacrifice on the transaction. ### I am of opinion that in equity we should be allowed the $185.67, but in order to settle the matter amicably I am prepared to waive any claim we may have if you will credit us with the balance of $119.32 shown on the statement and cry quits in respect of this whole "Bureau" business. ### Kindly let me hear from you as soon as possible and favor me with your promised memorandum in reference to the balance of Mr. Edison's contingent account." Yours very truly, J. H. McClement [Marginalia: "John Go thro and fix it up. I want to write the % off our books. AOT Sept /88"] [handwritten bill enclosed]
