- "Mr. Johnson has requested me to examine into the matter of the respective values of the various shop stocks, and the Light Co. and make up, as an arbitrator, a statement of what value should be placed upon the Lt Co's stock, if a genearl trust or consolidation is determined upon the Villard deal. Will you help matters along by sending me a balance sheet of the Machine Works,- say on January 1st. 1888, and the amounts of Book accounts wiped out against Profits. Mr. Upton and Bergmann are to give me the same information for the Lamp Co. and B & Co. respectively, and I will then be prepared to work the matter up. Keep this confidential."
