Title
[D8833ABX], Letter from Francis Robbins Upton to Thomas Alva Edison, August 28th, 1888
Editor's Notes
"Herman J. Jaegar & Co., who makes pumps for the Consolidated Co.'s Factory, are making for us 2 Air Pumps, at the price of $23.00 each. I think that the pumps had better be tried in your Laboratory, if you can arrange to have it done in a room apart from others. ### I think that the pumps would be valuable for getting a definite stage for exhaustion, as the pump is an Automatic Geisler Pump. ### Kindly let me know if I can direct Jaeger & Co., to ship the pump to the Laboratory, and whether you will make arrangements to have them tested there. ### We are under no obligations to give any opinion regarding the merits of the pump, or to buy any in future. ### The only need of having any one admitted to the Laboratory, is, that the pumps should be set up by some one who understood them and who would show some one the points necessary for working the same." Very truly yours, Francis R. Upton [Marginalia: "Send Pumps on." E.]
