- Editor's Notes
- "Your favor of the 20 inst. Has reached me here. I don't quite understand Mr. Forbes statement. As I recollect the contract made by you and Rau, it provided that we should get our royalty for 14 (or 17) years on all lamps sold by the French Co. This scheme of Swan and the Cie Continentale is a peculiar one,- it is not a consolidation but is something like our United Mfg. Co.,--in that the Swan Co. and the Cie. Continentale become the stockholders of the new Co. and turn all their business over to it and must look to it alone for profits. The arrangement is probably a good one, but it is worth while for you to look at our contract and see whether it is authorized. I would not raise that point, however, in writing to the Cie Continentale, but would ask that concern very politely how our royalty is to be provided for after 1894. Perhaps, too, it would be well for you to write privately to Mr. Harje, and get full particulars from him. ### I have never heard antyhing further from you abt selling our rights in Portugal. As I remember the Cie Cont offered 5% royalty on all electrical apparatus, Edison wanted 5% on everything, which they would not give and you were going to write to a Mr. Dyer, I think, for advice. ### Do you want to sell your interest in Edison Yp-town stock at cost plus interest at 6% per annum? If so, I think I can find you a purchaser. Somebody asked me to find him a buyer, a while ago, but I can't remember whether it was you, or not. ### I shall be back in N.Y. inside of a week. You had better address your answer to the office." Very truly yours, C.H. Coster "Make sure that Edison or Tate, or whoever writes to Rau, writes very politely. We don't want to get into any quarrel or accuse them of violating contract until we have more facts thanare contained in the speech--which I return. C.H.C."
