[D8845ACR], Letter from Walter Seeley Mallory to Thomas Alva Edison, August 10th, 1888

Editor's Notes

[from Marquette, MI] "Mr. Kenssey arrived today and is hard at work on our plans. We have decided upon one of two locations, and will know which we will take probably tomorrow--the option go slow. I am having more trouble than I expected, the greatest trouble being the term of contract (20 years) upon which I [unclear]--still expect to get them all before get through--I am considering now the renting of our engine ($1.00 per day) for say 60 or 90 days until we are certain that the product here will be all we hope--and want to know if we can view the dynamo from the engine or if we will get better results with a separate engine--the engine that expect to me in 12+22=6' wheel 14" face--automatic--length [unclear] 11'-10". Also kindly let me know what size dynamo we will need for the magnet and also say 20 lights. We have decided upon a Gates counter, and plain cornish rolls. I have spent a week [unclear] along the Blake & Gates [unclear] and find the Blake has not worked satisfactory on the hard ore, and has in almost every instance been thrown out, and the Gates substituted because of the great expense in keepign the Blake in repair--then the Gates has much larger capacity and will crush finer and more unifrom. Please send answer to Chicago. With kindest regards to Mrs. Edison & yourself I am" Yours etc. W.S. Malloy [TAE marginalia: "Ans 19/9/88" "Say to order a No 2 dynamo. E."]
