Title
[D8845ADI], Letter from Crane Iron Co, William Stockman Pilling to Thomas Alva Edison, September 3rd, 1888
Editor's Notes
"We have your favor of the 1st inst. We do not see that running through such a small quantity of Ore as you name, would demonstrate the commercial value of your apparatus. Before we go to see it, will you be good enough to let us know the daily capacity of your machine, and also whether you have appliances for crushing, as otherwise the Ore would have to be crushed before being sent you. A car-load would be a much more satisfactory experiment, but of course we do not wish to tax your machine, nor encroach upon your time, if it would take long to run it through." Yours very truly, W.S. Pilling [Marginalia: "The Machine we have [unclear] here will run through a carload of 10 tons in one hour and forty minutes if 20 mesh on some Lake Superior ore without phorphous + crushed to 1/4 inch size it run through a ton in 4 seconds + raised it from 40 percent to 64 per cent ore-we have a crusher + cornish roller it works here just as it will work in practice, I guarantee results."
