Title
[D8845AGN], Letter from John Birkinbine to Thomas Alva Edison, December 10th, 1888
Editor's Notes
"Owing to the death of one of my assistants and the propriety of my attending the funeral I shall not be able to come over unless it be in the latter part of the week on Saturday I visited the Croton and Lilly Foster mines , near Brewster, N.Y. and have some interesting data to give you concerning the Buchanan Magnetic Separator at the former and the Ball Stamping and the [unclear] Water Jigs at the latter. They claim at the Filly Foster that ore going to the incubator yields but 25% of iron and they get 63% is their incubates leaving over 18% in their tailings. I figure that it takes about severe tons of ore to give one ton of concentrate. ### 7 tons crude ore @ 25% 175 units of iron less 1 ton [unclear] @ 63% [calculations follow]" [TAE marg: "Send to Levor (Livor)]
