Title
[D8850ADV], Letter from Wilkie Collins to George Edward Gouraud, September 24th, 1888
Editor's Notes
"I sincerely appreciate this compliment which is implied in the invitation with which you have honoured me. Mr. Edisons fame has been nobly gained. His place in history is already securd, and his landmark set up on the territory of Science. ### But, in the present state of my health, I fear there is little hope of my being able to profit by this opportunity which you have been so good as to offer me of investigating the most wonderful invention of our time. I have been already away from London (which is my only excuse for this late reply), trying what a purer air will do for me- and I shall probably be far away from Little Menlo next month. ### Pray accept my apologies as well as my thanks, and believe me," Faithfully yours, (Sigd) Wilkie Collins.
