- Title
- [D8850AEG], Phonogram from George Edward Gouraud to Thomas Alva Edison, November 22nd, 1888
- Editor's Notes
- "As this is the first occasion on which the Phonograph has appeared and perfomed in a private house in the great city of London, it would seem meet and right that our host, Mr Knowles, and our hostess and their daughters, together with the guests, should mark the event by letting you hear, in their own voices, their own particular names. Now listen to their voices and to their names, beginning with Mr Knowles, the well known Editor of the "Nineteenth Century". ### I have been quite misunderstood by the company, each of whom thought that he (ha) and she (ha) would escape with the brevity of their phonautographs; but I propose that, in so far as they may be pleased to do so, each one shall preceded his phonautograph by saying anything to you which the spirit moves him to say. ### The spirit first moves Mr. Knowles."
