- Editor's Notes
- "It is not my spirit but Colonel Gouraud's which moves me to say anything to you; and all I have to say is, in the name of my wife and myself, to thank him and you for the most interesting ### You have turned one of the corners of the Nineteenth Century, and one of the corners of the world. I speak in behalf of my wife as well as of myself, according to our English custom; and I will now ask, as Colonel Gouraud kindly desires, my guests of this evening to thank you in their own names, one by one. I only wish that we might someday meet face to face. ### James Knowles, Editor of the "Nineteenth Century". ### My daughters ask me to speak to you for them also and to thank you with equal cordiality. ### [Gram 2. ### Mr. Knowles. ###] I beg now to introduce you to the Earl of Aberdeen."
