Title
[D8853ACN], Letter from William S Logue to Alfred Ord Tate, May 10th, 1888
Editor's Notes
"Replying to your favor of the 9th inst in reference to my selecting the instruments for the PRR circuit I would say that Bergmann + Co. are laboring a false impression. I merely told them what we needed and which to ship first. All of the instruments that I saw were old. On receipt of the first lot I wrote B + Co. complaining about the transmitters and the next day or day after that telegraphed them from Altoona about the springs neither the letter on telegram seemed to have any effect. All the new transmitter shipped to the way stations were as bad as the first lot. All of the keys sent to Harrisburg were old ones and ok. The new + [unclear] ones I found in the way station packages. I also found the defective magnetic coils the PRR people repaired one for me. I will send the two coils and [unclear] or improperly constructed keys to B + Co by express. ### I also return to B +Co two barrels. One from Lewistown Junction containg a full set of Phone inst. 1 permanent magnet and 7 cells of Battery completely the other from Altoona containing a fulll set of insts and for 9 cells of Battery. ### The PRR have decided not to open two of the offices called for. ### I would suggest that the Coils Transmitter and keys be tested + examined before they are sent out again."
