Title

[D8853AEW1], Letter from Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Co, Charles L Selden to Alfred Ord Tate, October 18th, 1888

Editor's Notes

"I thank you for your letter of Oct. 17th but I have been under the impression that you sold the phonoplex outright and charged no royalties. I hardly understand that part of your letter referring to the duplex and quadruplex equipment. My recollection of the old contract with the company was that on the face of things you were to receive $30.00 per annum, per set, less actually $20.00, ours beign the first road to accept and put the phonoplex into use. However, if they are to be $100 each that will of necessity debar their use with us beyond what we now have in service, which, of course, we will retain for a year. It is cheaper for e to build wires when your rates are so high as to represent more than the ordinary rate of interest on an expenditure which would give us an absolute wire by itself." Yours truly, C. Selden [Marginalia: Ans Oct 19/88"]
