- Editor's Notes
- "When I was recently in Mr. Edison's Laboratory, he complained very bitterly about the delay in receiving material from us. The real source of the trouble is in his own establishment. I found that the store keeper (Sullivan I think his name is) had lots of bills from us for exactly the class of material that Mr. Edison desires, and that this same gentlemanis treating the matter in a McCawber-like fashion, namely 'waiting for something to turn up.' The only way to hurry freight up which is delayed is to send a tracer after it. If you do not receive goods within eight or ten days from date of our bills you should report to us, that goods billed such or such a date have not arrived. We will then send out a tracer to expedite their delivery. It is an absurdity for your store keeper to hold a pile of bills in the store house waiting for the goods and not communicate with us as to the matter. Mr. Edison is daily making complaints against us in this matter, his impression being that the goods have not been shipped. This subject is deserving of your immediate attention as it is my intention to place the blame where it belongs. ### I drew Mr. Edison's attention to the method of treating these matters when I was with him on Friday last." Very truly yours, Sam Insull [Marginalia: "That man Sullivan must be a daisy. He ought to be put in a glass case."]
