Title
[D8856ACI], Letter from Fauth & Co to Thomas Alva Edison, March 2nd, 1888
Editor's Notes
"The interest on your note is 6% not 8 as we thought + it amounts to $41.14/100, for which please send us your check. We are making some instruments for the measurement of the magnetic force by means of hollow cylindrical magnets, carrying a lens at one end and a fine glass scale at the other; in fact this magnet forms a collinating telescope and is placed in front of a measuring telescope. The difficulty is to get steel which retains the magnetism, after it is charged. We think you know more about this than anybody else, and we should like you to inform us what kind of steel to employ for the purpose. The size of the magnets is only about 3 inches in length by 1/2 diam." very respectfully yours, Fauth + Co. TAE marg: "Tate-notice about note= say that I have this and trouble getting steel to hold magnets + can suggest no remedy."
