- Editor's Notes
- Chicago Ill Oct 9th 1889 Professor Thomas A Edison Menlo Park NJ Dear Sir, From correspondence with Dr. MW. Meyer in Berlin, Prussia, we learn that when traveling in Europe you visitede also the "Scientific Theatre" and exhibition of scientifical instruments held there, under the auspisces of the Co "Urania" with which Dr. Meyer is actively and prominently connected. We understand also that you should have taken a deep interest in the exhibition as naturally as a man of your science and inventive genius would do and had some conversation with Dr. Meyer on the subject. It is being considered to establish an undertaking of similar nature in this city to be located here permanently with a view of making the American people interested in and more familiar with the inventions of modern times and their appliances. It would be intended that in the building to be erected for the purpose should be held regularly popular lectures on various scientific topics at which explanatory illustrations and views would be shown making the whole a novel entertainment at the same time attractive and INSTRUCTIVE. You having personally visited the Berlin plant and being familiar with the object in view we take the liberty of addressing you these lines and would be much pleased to have your opinion as to whether an undertaking of this kind would be met with favorably by the American public and if you think moneyed men could be advised to make investments in the enterprise with some returns for some. Dr. Meyer writes us also that in case the proposed establishment here would become a fact he would arrange with you for furnishing part of the electrical machinery needed. Please let us know whether you would be willing to furnish such and if it would be necessary to give you the order considerably in advance or if the goods ordered cn be delivered on comparatively short notice. Awaiting your reply, we remain, Very respectfully yours Wasmandorff Heinemann [name mentions: Wasmandorff & Heinemann Thos Edison Gesellshaft Urania M.W Meyer Scientific Theatre ]
