Title

[D8905AHC], Letter from William J Dunn to Thomas Alva Edison, October 14th, 1889

Editor's Notes

Chicago Oct 14 1889 Thos A Edison Esq Dear Sir, Enclosed find the pith of a sunflower which occurred to me might be made use of by you in electric light as it [h---] without flame, and you, if any one could subject it to some process, impression or solution or otherwise that would serve your purpose. In regard to the way the company who have the right of sale of the Phonograph I don't think they are treating the public right, as I understand it a person not buy a phonograph but have to sent it paying so much a month, now such a procedure will prevent a great many people from enjoying the product of your genius, while a great many people could afford to buy one outright they cannot afford to rent one, I am one of that class, and would deprive myself of other things that I might have a Phonograph, it is now only within reach of the wealthy, and I would like to know if there is any way I an get one to be my own property. If you can not sell me one cannot you make me a present of one and I could make you a present of equal value you to name the article and to receive it before sending the Phonograph. Yours Respectfully, William Dunn Chicago [name mentions: William Dunn Thos Edison ]
