Title

[D8905AHO], Letter from W R Wills to Thomas Alva Edison, October 22nd, 1889

Editor's Notes

I take pleasure in grasping the first opportunity offered me of congratulating you on your safe return home from your journey and I also take this my first opportunity to thank you for the beautiful & generous gift you made me in the shape of a phonograph. I was very much pleased, but much more surprised with the gift, as I knew nothing that should merit such a gift on my part, unless it was my good looks & as I had never seen you before I did not suppose that you could take those all in the first sitting; but it appears that you did& that I drew the prize, and I assure you that I shall prize it very highly, not only for its intrinsic value, but more especial for the illustrious donors sake.##And now, Mr. Edison, allow me the great pleasure of reciprocating your kindness by presenting you with the Sapphire SIZING plate which accompanies this note, I have made it especially for you use & trust that it may be useful to you in many ways. And although it was made by a "crank" I hope you will find noing crankey about it.##I have been instructed by the President & treasurer of the Waltham Watch Co. to extend to you & Mr. Batchelor a most cordial invitation to visit the factory at Waltham & to bring with you as many friends as you & he may desire. Hoping you will accept the invitation & that I sahll see you soon, I remain yours truly, W.R Willls [name mentions: Waltham Watch Co.]
